Advocates for Senior Issues
|
The Advocates for Senior Issues (AFSI)are affiliated with the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan. We are a non-partisan association made up of a variety of local citizens and organizations who have strong interests in not only senior issues but issues that concern our community, our safety, and our happiness. Our main focus is to influence local, state, and federal legislators towards our concerns. The group meets regularly to:
Learn:
Meetings include legislators who speak on current events and answer questions from the group and experts from many professions who keep us informed of life changes, new ideas, and the best ways to get things done.
Advocate:
We advocate for local community issues as well as state and federal issues. Our goal is to always make positive changes that will benefit those who need the changes the most. We presently have three active sub-committee Strategy Groups that are working on Elder Abuse, Universal Health Care, and MI Choice issues.
Socialize:
Members from their 20s to their 90s always find something interesting at our meetings. It’s a good place to connect with others of like interest as most of our members are actively engaged in other activities outside of our group.
No meetings in July and August. Next scheduled meeting will be September 17, 2010.
